On this day we held a town hall meeting discussing the different views important people in history had on slavery. Half of the class was assigned to talk about a person that was pro-slavery and the other half was to talk about a person that was anti-slavery. I was the half to talk about a person who was anti-slavery so I chose Harriet Tubman. Tubman was a former slave who helped other slaves escape to freedom through the underground railroad. She was the "conductor" of the escape tunnels and had help from other abolitionists as well. Tubman was known for her bravery in helping more than 300 slaves escape during this time.
Other in my class that were pro-slavery mostly argued that slaves were good for the economy, bringing in money and wealth. In my opinion this is incorrect and the economy has several different factors that affect it.
