Plessy v. Ferguson

Today in class we held a mock trail on the Plessy v. Ferguson case. In this case Homer Plessy was an 1/8 African American male who bought a first class ticket, knowing this was wrong, for a train ride and refused to sit in a car that was meant for African Americans. Both the teams arguing today looked at if this violated Plessy's 14th amendment or not.

The first team to go up was arguing on behalf of Homer Plessy. This team argued from a religion standpoint, they said since Plessy is only 1/8 African American he was considered white, and lastly they discussed the Equal Protections Clause. In my opinion their arguments were a bit weak and could've had for support and information to them.

The second team argued on behalf of Ferguson. They hit the points regarding the "separate but equal" outlook, as well as the three amendments, 13th, 14th and 15th, all created after slavery and stating that African Americans are now citizens and have rights but they are separated from whites by law.

The final decision of the court was ruled in favor of the state.
